Ulandi was a Confederation officer. As a Sergeant he was a towering rock-solid figure and participated in the Marine Commando Six where he was known as Ulandi the Madman. During their fateful mission he had pulled out Spencer Banbridge saving his life as well as Winston Turner's. They were three of the very few survivors of that group.
Turner kept a photograph of him and Ulandi from those days in his office in the Confederation Service Academy.
By 2633-4 he was stationed at Base McAuliffe, obviously its commander, waiting for his retirement until late 2634. He received incompetent Admiral Nagomo as his replacement and took care so that he didn't screw things up. Banbridge passed by the base and the "old gunney" asked to pass his regards to Turner.[1]
