Loaf was the callsign of a pilot of the CS Tiger Claw as part of the Gunner's squadron. The pilots flew Rapiers. He flew with Mango and R.

Loaf is apparently a nod to Ben Lesnick (LOAF) a long time Wing Commander fan and owner of the Wing Commander CIC website and the Wing Commander Encyclopedia. He was allows to write the introduction to the online Pilgrim Truth release, and was one of the individuals that made the release possible. The pilot Bandit in Star*Soldier may be another reference.
