Old man Haffa Sarn was the owner of the Sarn shipping firm. He had several sons, including Venela Sarn.
Around 2630 the 17-year old Hans Kruger signed on to a merchant ship leaving his planet's port. For 4 years he worked his way up through its ranks. Haffa started to see Hans as one of his extended family. That was until he killed Venela in self-defense. Haffa didn't forgive him, and for form's sake, had promised that Hans would be "sleeping with the asteroids". Hans escaped Gainer's World onboard a smuggler ship.[1]
