A carrier is a category of capital ships common in the Terran Confederation and the Kilrathi Empire. A carrier was the base for starfighters.

Carriers were smaller and less powerful than eg. battleships.[1]

Terran carriers had multiple jump engines that left a unique jump trace with recognizable pattern.[2] A carrier had a Bridge with Bridge officers, and a flight deck with flight deck technicians.[3] They made use of the Automated Carrier Landing System.

The Terran Confederation Armed Forces CommNet served Terran carriers and bases.

History[]

During the Kilrathi-Varni War (c.2590), the Kilrathi discussed the role of carriers instead of battleships as the first strike force in an invasion.

The Terrans were perhaps the first who discovered the potential of the carriers, and the speed that carrier-launched fighters and bombers can accumulate during an attack, as proved in the Panama System war games in 2622.

In early 2630s, the discovery of a shield-penetrating torpedo made more logical the promotion of the role of carriers. Crown Prince Gilkarg nar Kiranka wanted to base his attack against the Terran Confederation on speed and surprise, and using Terran knowledge, he developed a strategy that would take advantage of carrier-launched ships.[1]

The Terran Confederation Fleet had 7 antiquated carriers, and right after the first contact with the Kilrathi, there was an appropriation calling for building program of 8 new ones. Only TCS Concordia and another one were completed, the others shut down and abandoned in Lunar orbit.[4]

Kilrathi fast carriers participated in the McAuliffe Ambush. Some of them belonged to the Second Fleet of the Claw.

In the early Terran-Kilrathi War, Kilrathi carrier forces also attacked Hellespont and Tartarus.[5]

Later in the war, 2 Kilrathi carriers approached the Tesla system.[6]
